#5 Try reframing the instruction

Also, reframe the way you issue the instruction.  It might be you say – “Get your shoes on now so we can leave on time, Jake.” Or, “Jake it would help me if you came to the table now so we could all eat. Children are miniature versions of us – we need to imagine how we would react to the way we speak to them. Maybe we would choose not to listen too.

Then, when they do react the first time you speak – notice it and say how much you love it – just so they know you appreciate their efforts too.
